Goals & Objectives

Our vision is that all LPCSD students are personally fulfilled, academically challenged, well prepared for future training, education and careers, and equipped with the knowledge and skills to be responsive and successful stewards of their community and the world. United, Engaged, Empowered.

Toward fulfilling our vision, the Board of Education of Lake Placid Central School District adopts the following goals and objectives for the 2023-2024 school year and beyond.

Strategic Goal #1 -- Students First and Foremost:

Provide a welcoming and inclusive school community by implementing Policy 0105, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion into education. Result in a reduced number of complaints/instances of harassment.

Be in-touch with the student population by receiving five or more student presentations annually. These presentations will include the student council, various grades, clubs or organizations representing our student population.

Support the development of programs and initiatives that expand comprehensive awareness, including experiences that increase international and cultural understanding, tolerance, and acceptance.

Using budgeted funding, students will receive two to three district wide presentations to expose students to different cultures and experiences.

Meet the needs of our Special Education students and their support systems through continued allocation of resources.

Strategic Goal #2 - Education:

Seek out opportunities and provide appropriate support to closing the opportunity gap across the socio-economic gradient.  Continue to investigate no cost options for AP, Bridge Courses and any other identified opportunities.

Receive a report on new and continued opportunities offered by the district regarding the diversity in educational opportunities and activities available to all students (from technical to Advanced Placement).

Explore with all stakeholders the potential of increasing the number of career and technical program options.

Receive regular updates on programming, attendance, successes, areas of improvement and anticipated changes as students and teachers emerge from the pandemic.

●                   Receive annual report on student data regarding math and ELA proficiency.

●                   Receive a report from the Staff and Student Wellness Task Force (June 2024).

●                   Receive a report on how the district is promoting civic engagement and ideals with our students.

Strategic Goal #3 - Community Outreach and Involvement:

Assess and alter the board’s communication methods based on student, faculty/staff and Board member feedback as to how to best communicate to all stakeholders. Review results of strategic plan surveys to shareholders on an annual basis.

Maintain open and effective communication with the public, staff and students through published articles or presentations of current/relevant topics.

As the opportunity arises, assure representation of the district as part of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

Support Superintendent and Community Schools Coordinator in community engagement.

Support community initiatives, both at the nonprofit and municipal level, that will influence enrollment and support staffing needs.

Strategic Goal #4 - Leadership:

Prior to May 15, 2024, complete the Superintendent evaluation, complete with appropriate feedback and guidance for the coming year.

Review the current succession plan as to include planning for future administrative (building principals, etc.) vacancies.

Formulate a plan to increase the pool of candidates in preparation for board vacancies.

Each board member will participate in 18 of 23 (78%) board meetings.

Evaluate the onboarding process for newly appointed/elected Board member(s).

Conduct an annual Board self-evaluation, with 100% participation of its members.  Develop an action plan for all elements scoring 50% or less.

 Strategic Goal #5 - Technology:

Receive a presentation by District Technology Coordinator reviewing operations of the program, goals and vision for the future, and suggested product/technology innovations.

Ensure access to appropriate academic technology for each student to bridge the opportunity gap.

Encourage student, staff and family participation in identifying technology gaps in our current technology offerings.

●       Assemble a task force to assess the implications of technology usage and the applications of artificial intelligence on the overall well-being of our students and staff.

 Strategic Goal #6 - Finance:

Within the limits of a budget, at or under the current tax cap, maintain current programs for an effective curriculum.

Build on the Board’s partnership with the Educational Opportunity Fund and with private funders through the Adirondack Foundation.

●   Develop avenues to communicate gratitude for the generosity of donors and regional partners.

The District shall work collaboratively and in good faith with the Town of North Elba, Town of Wilmington, Village of Lake Placid, and ORDA while preserving the interests of our students and facilities.

Maintain transparency with CSEA and LPEA to have a good working relationship with the faculty and staff, who are LPCSD’s greatest assets.

Continue to conduct district business in a professional and ethical manner, seeking efficiencies and collaboration possibilities.
