Chromebook Policy
The Lake Placid Central School district is 1:1 with Chromebooks in grade 3-12. Only school issued computers will be allowed for use on campus and allowed to connect to the schools internet services. At the beginning of each school year students will receive a Chromebook and charger. These devices will be collected back at the end of each school year to be cleaned and serviced. Freshman will be given a brand new chromebook at the beginning of the school year which will follow them through the four years they are in school. They will still hand in their Chromebook at the end of the school year to be cleaned and serviced.
Students Responsibilities
Students are responsible for their Chromebook and charger. They have a responsibility to have their device everyday fully charged and ready to go. If a student forgets their device, they will be able to sign out a loner from the library that has to be returned at the end of the day.
General Precautions
No food or drink should be next to Chromebooks.
Cords, cables, and removable storage devices must be inserted carefully into Chromebooks.
Chromebooks should not be used or stored near pets.
Chromebooks should not be exposed to extreme temperatures, such as leaving it in a car overnight during the winter or in extreme heat.
Chromebooks should not be used with the power cord plugged in when the cord may be a tripping hazard.
Chromebooks must remain free of any writing, drawing, or stickers.
Heavy objects should never be placed on top of Chromebooks.
Screen Care
The Chromebook screen can be damaged if subjected to heavy objects, rough treatment, some cleaning solvents, and other liquids. The screens are particularly sensitive to damage from excessive pressure. Do not put pressure on the top of a Chromebook when it is closed. Do not store a Chromebook with the screen open. Do not place anything in the protective case that will press against the cover. Make sure there is nothing on the keyboard before closing the lid (e.g. pens, pencils, or disks). Only clean the screen with a soft, dry microfiber cloth or anti--static cloth.
Carrying Chromebooks
Always transport Chromebooks with care and in protective cases.Never lift Chromebooks by the screen. Never carry Chromebooks with the screen open.
Damaged or Lost Chromebook or Charger
Students are responsible for both Chromebook and charger. If chrome books get damaged during the school year, the student will bring their chrome book to the library and fill out a repair/exchange form and receive a chromebook from the library. If the chrome book can be fixed, it will be returned to the student. If the chromebook cannot be repaired, the student will keep the exchanged chromebook.
Students will be charged for lost or damaged devices and chargers. Computer devices shall be considered misused if they are not in working order due to intentional abuse or blatant disregard of 1:1 Device Use and Care Guide. The following price guidelines will be used:
Chargers
1st charger replacement: $10.00
2nd charger replacement: $25.00
Chrome book repair/replacement
Chromebook Non-warranty repairs - repairs caused by the student. (cracked screen, liquid spills, dropped device etc )
1st Chromebook repair: $50.00
2nd Chromebook repair: $100.00
3rd Chromebook repair: $300.00
